The primary cause of COPD is smoking cigarettes, cigars, or pip smoking and the best way to prevent COPD and slow its progression is to stop smoking all of the above.

Even though there is no cure for COPD, treatment is always available to help relieve the patient's symptoms and help improve his or her quality of life.
